S.O.P.’s regarding multi-organ issues when hospitalized


After the sad demise of my father I thought it was essential for me to share my experience at the hospital with all my friends.

SOPs for Medical treatment

  1. In case of multi organ issues, make
    1. Lists of Doctors dealing with relevant organs
    2. List of best organ specialist in the country (Specialty area, Name of doctor, contact details of doctor and immediate assistant, city)
    3. List of friends, relatives, family members that are dealing in
      1. Medicines
      2. Pharmacy
      3. Medical machinery

Make lists of contact details of friends, relatives, family members that are dealing in above mentioned areas and also take contact details of their friends who can help.

  1. List of ICU nursing staff
  2. Immediate situation analysis
  3. In case of multi-organ issues, only personal doctors will treat the patient. New doctors should not treat the patient directly without discussing with personal doctor.
  4. Ask all your personal doctors for their preferred hospital where they all can visit regularly and give proper attention.
  5. In hospital, duty roster will be as follows
    1. Personal Nursing Staff (2-3 shifts)
    2. Junior doctor (2-3 shifts)
    3. Junior doctors will be answerable to specialist directly (proper reporting system)
    4. Every treatment (procedure for treatment)/medication must go through
      1. Research
      2. Inspection
      3. Routine for that treatment (procedure for treatment)/medication
      4. Future plan for treatment (procedure for treatment)/medication

General Instructions

  1. Make sure availability of
    1. Best equipment
    2. Best medicines
    3. Each organ to be dealt separately
    4. Visitors are not allowed
    5. All rules and regulations to be followed STRICTLY
    6. Prefer to shift in CCU rather than ICU. In CCU
      1. All personal doctors will visit regularly
      2. Interview and short list doctors
      3. In case of absence of a short listed doctor,

i.      He must find and inform about the responsible person in his absence

ii.      Or immediately find a replacement in his absence

Financial Arrangements

  1. A certain amount of “cash” must be available for emergency health issues

or

A reserve property for health issues to liquidate immediately, this reserve can be in form of

  1. Vehicle
  2. Land
  3. Property
Human Resource Management
  1. List of staff to be released immediately from properties for additional duties in hospital (this duty will be added in their Job Descriptions as well while hiring). Define their new duty timings in hospital and assign them new task list e.g. name of responsible person for
    1. Medicine (24 hours)
    2. Proper cleanliness and hygiene
    3. Preparation of food advised by the doctor for the patient
    4. Delivery of Meals i.e. Breakfast/lunch/dinner
    5. New staff/back up/ relievers will immediately take charge of those positions
